The note is practical: Michigan's RN application carries the same 2 hours, and you file that application early if you train here. Relocating mid-program? Raise it with your program advisor first, as Loyola asks; the moving guide covers what shifts.
A Michigan license, and a Louisiana one too
A multistate card from Louisiana or elsewhere does nothing at a Michigan clinic: Michigan is outside the compact, with HB 4246 pending in its legislature. Loyola, for its part, wants your RN license active wherever the practicum hours physically happen. Put together, a Michigan site means a Michigan license.
Michigan's application adds a criminal background check, a single training on recognizing human trafficking victims, and the implicit bias hours, taken in the five years before issue. File early; site onboarding waits on it.
Loyola's separate enrollment rule calls for a current Louisiana or multistate license, in place before semester two for FNP and PMHNP students. A Michigan license can only be single-state while Michigan stays out of the compact, so a Michigan resident covers that rule with a Louisiana license held as well. The RN license page has the rest.
Restricted practice, and a quick credential check
AANP puts Michigan in its restricted group, and the reason is prescribing: Michigan NPs write for controlled substances only under a physician's delegation. Who may precept you is Loyola's call, set out on the preceptor requirements page.
One Michigan quirk makes vetting NPs faster. To earn Michigan's NP specialty certification, a nurse must already be nationally certified by a body the Board recognizes and must hold a current Michigan RN license, so an NP carrying it has already cleared Loyola's board certification bar. What remains to confirm: an unencumbered license, practice beyond one year (2,080 hours), and no family relationship.
Michigan asks nothing of Loyola up front
Michigan's Board of Nursing publishes nothing asking a school from another state to register, apply or notify it before students train in Michigan. The approval rules it does have (R 338.10301 and the sections that follow) are written for Michigan-based schools. At licensure, the Board accepts programs from elsewhere if ACEN, CNEA or CCNE accredits them, and CCNE accredits Loyola's master's and DNP programs (see accreditation).
Your real gatekeeper is the Loyola sequence: a signed affiliation agreement, then Placement Approved in Exxat, then hours. A site that redlines the agreement can stretch that by months, which is why Loyola wants a three-month head start.
Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint
The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn metro counted roughly 4.39 million residents in the 2025 Census estimates. Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood, at about 1.18 million, ranks second; Lansing-East Lansing (near 480,000) and Flint (near 401,000) trail it. Systems with a big Michigan footprint include McLaren Health Care, Henry Ford Health and Corewell Health, along with Trinity Health Michigan and Michigan Medicine, the University of Michigan's health system. Each sets its own student process.

Is Michigan approved for Loyola New Orleans online NP programs?
It is. Loyola's School of Nursing map from July 15, 2026 shows Michigan green for every program, and both June 2026 licensure tables mark it as meeting requirements. From there the usual Loyola steps apply: you pick a preceptor and site, hold a Michigan RN license, and log hours only after Exxat shows Placement Approved.
Why does Loyola's Michigan listing mention implicit bias training?
It reflects a Michigan licensing requirement. Michigan asks RN applicants for 2 hours completed in the 5 years before the license issues, next to a human trafficking course and a background check. Train in Michigan and you meet it early; if you later apply for Michigan licensure as a graduate, check that your training still falls inside that window.
Will a compact license from Louisiana cover a Michigan site?
No, because Michigan has not joined the compact; HB 4246 would change that if enacted. Until then, Loyola's rule of an active RN license in each practicum state points you to a Michigan license, while your Louisiana or multistate license keeps covering Loyola's enrollment requirement.
Can a Michigan physician precept a Loyola FNP student?
For the first two FPCM courses, yes: the FNP guide lets a physician (MD or DO, board certified in the specialty), a PA or an NP supervise them. FPCM III has to fit its pediatric and obstetric patient mix, and a specialty site in FPCM IV goes to the FNP Director for approval. At a Michigan site, every preceptor holds a current, unencumbered Michigan license.
