Who do you help?

Loyola's graduate NP and DNP students are the center of our work: the MSN FNP, BSN-DNP FNP and FNP certificate, the BSN-DNP AGACNP and its certificate, the MSN PMHNP and its certificate, and the MSN-DNP Executive Leader. In these programs, Loyola expects students to bring a preceptor and site forward for each practicum, which is exactly the job we do.

Nurse-Midwifery, Nurse Anesthesia, the dual AGACNP/Nurse Anesthesia program, the BSN and the Accelerated BSN assign clinical sites through the program. We still help in specific cases, such as a Nurse-Midwifery rotation outside Louisiana, which Loyola considers only with a CNM's signed letter sent six months ahead. Which courses do you search for?

Any graduate practicum where Loyola asks you to name the preceptor. Each search starts from the course number on your plan of study, because the course decides which clinicians and settings Loyola will accept.

FNP students from cohorts before Fall 2024 followed older 180-hour courses, so continuing students should confirm their hours with the program director.

Where can you place me?

In any state where Loyola approves your program's practicums, provided you hold an active RN license there. Plenty of Loyola students live in Greater New Orleans or elsewhere in Louisiana, and online students are spread across the country. Loyola's licensure table and its State Approvals Map disagree for Hawaii, Montana, Wyoming, California, Arizona, Alaska and Rhode Island, and under the map, practicums cannot take place in New York, so confirm your state on the state approvals map page. The same map limits California practicums to FNP students.

If a move is coming during your program, Loyola wants you to speak with your program advisor first, since a new state can affect licensure and practicum access. Each state's board and rules are covered in the state guides.

How do you fit with Loyola's offices?

Loyola's Clinical Practicum Coordinator handles affiliation agreements, tracks compliance and helps with Exxat, while your faculty and program directors approve each placement. Our place is earlier in that chain, at the search, and the packet we build is designed so that the coordinator and faculty receive a complete request that already follows Loyola's rules. When the coordinator or faculty raise a question about the site or the preceptor, we help you answer it quickly.

You remain the student of record everywhere: in your Exxat account, your Canvas courses and your LORA registration. You submit the Wishlist, log your hours in Exxat and keep your compliance items current. The who does what page describes every Loyola role in a practicum.

What should I have ready before I contact you?

Your program and the course number of your next practicum
The term it runs, and any later practicums on your plan of study you want covered
Your home city or parish, and how far you can drive on clinic days
Each state that has issued you an active RN license
Sites or clinicians you have already approached, and what each one said
Your work schedule, if practicum hours have to fit around it
Any compliance item that is expired or still pending, such as BLS or the TB risk assessment

Questions Loyola students ask

Do you help Loyola BSN students with clinicals?

Loyola arranges BSN and ABSN clinicals itself: the BSN through its partner Ochsner Health and the ABSN with Greater New Orleans partners. For the 180-hour undergraduate preceptorship, students name three areas of interest tied to Adult Health II and program faculty finalize the unit. Our work centers on graduate practicums, where Loyola asks students to bring the site.

Can my workplace be my practicum site?

It can be, under Loyola's Employed at Clinical Site Attestation: clinical hours in a different department and at different times from your job, signed by you, your supervisor and your preceptor. DNP project preceptors cannot be your employer or direct supervisor, so the preceptor at a workplace site has to be someone else.

What if my site wants to use its own contract?

Some sites insist on their own form, and Loyola reviews it, but a heavily edited or site-written agreement can take several months to clear. Keep a backup site moving at the same time, and log no hours until every party has signed, since Loyola forfeits hours completed before the agreement is final.

I'm already behind on hours this term. Can you still help?

Yes. Tell us the course, the hours remaining and the end date. AGACNP students under half their hours at midterm file an action plan, and unfinished hours may mean an Incomplete, which Loyola grants only with about 75% of the work done and passing. We look for added preceptor time or a second site that fits the course while there is still room in the term.

Do you handle my compliance uploads and the FERPA form?

Those stay in your own Exxat account. You sign the FERPA Consent to Release Student Information and upload it with your compliance items to Required Documents, where the Exxat APPROVE team reviews them. We track the dates for you and flag any extra items a site asks for, so nothing expires mid-search.
