Loyola New Orleans nursing accreditation, body by body
Loyola University New Orleans' School of Nursing holds CCNE accreditation for its baccalaureate, master's and DNP programs, COA accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia with the next review scheduled for Fall 2028, ACME preaccreditation for Nurse-Midwifery, and Louisiana State Board of Nursing approval for every program. The university itself is accredited by SACSCOC. Each body answers a different question, and boards and practicum sites look to different ones.

Five bodies, five different jobs
Accreditation at Loyola New Orleans is layered: national nursing accreditors review programs, a state board approves them, and a regional body accredits the university as a whole. The table sums up what Loyola states for each.

CCNE, and the question of the certificates
CCNE is the national accreditor for Loyola's collegiate nursing programs. The graduate bulletin and Loyola's accreditation page say CCNE accredits the baccalaureate, master's and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. The Nursing Student Handbook and the certificate program pages go a step further and include the Post-Graduate Certificate program.
That is a scope difference between Loyola's own documents, and it matters most to certificate students who need to show an employer, a board or a certification body what their program holds. If that applies to you, ask the School of Nursing for a written statement covering your certificate, rather than relying on either page alone.
Loyola's pages do not give CCNE accreditation dates or a next CCNE review. When you need a date for a form or an application, request it from the School of Nursing directly instead of estimating one.
The bulletin lists CCNE accreditation for the baccalaureate, master's and DNP programs; the handbook and certificate pages add the Post-Graduate Certificates. Certificate students who need proof should ask the School of Nursing in writing.
COA and the Nurse Anesthesia program
The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs accredits Loyola's BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia program, with its next COA review set for Fall 2028, according to Loyola.
COA's role reaches into the clinical side. Loyola's Nurse Anesthesia handbook (2023) says every anesthesia clinical site must have a written affiliation agreement the School of Nursing has signed off on, plus COA's approval, before any student is assigned there. The program places its students at program-affiliated sites, so anesthesia students do not run their own site search the way NP students do.
COA case-type and hour rules also apply on top of Loyola's own totals of 2,400 anesthesia hours plus 540 project hours. The Nurse Anesthesia program guide covers the hours, the per-course figures that differ between Loyola's bulletin and its 2026 plan, and the assigned-site model.
ACME preaccreditation for Nurse-Midwifery
ACME, the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, has granted preaccreditation to two Loyola programs: the MSN in Nurse-Midwifery and the Nurse-Midwifery Post-Graduate Certificate. Loyola uses the word preaccredited, not accredited, for these two programs, and the distinction is worth noting if you are comparing midwifery options.
If the status matters to a decision in front of you, such as certification eligibility or a license application in your state, put the question to the Nurse-Midwifery Program Director and save the written reply.
Clinically, the program assigns sites every semester, the bulk of them in greater New Orleans and elsewhere in Louisiana, and a certified nurse-midwife must supervise more than half of the clinical hours. Loyola's bulletin describes the certificate's practicums differently, which the Nurse-Midwifery guide sets out.
LSBN approval and Louisiana's clinical rules
Every School of Nursing program carries LSBN approval, according to the graduate bulletin. That approval places Loyola's clinical education under the board's rules, and those rules shape your practicum in specific ways.
LSBN's preceptor rule (LAC 46:XLVII.3543) keeps nurse faculty responsible for selecting learning experiences, requires faculty to meet with each preceptor and student at least once a week, and caps a preceptor at two graduate APRN students in any one clinical experience. Programs based outside Louisiana must seek LSBN approval at least six months ahead to place students in the state; as a Louisiana school, Loyola works under its own LSBN approval instead.
Health systems notice this. Ochsner LSU Health's graduate student page lists LSBN approval for APRN clinical experience in Louisiana among its requirements, alongside an active affiliation agreement. The Louisiana APRN practice guide explains the preceptor rule in more depth.
SACSCOC, SARA and licensure disclosures
SACSCOC accredits Loyola University New Orleans as an institution, which covers the whole university rather than any single nursing program. Separately, Loyola participates in NC-SARA, the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, which lets it offer online programs to students in SARA member states. California does not participate in SARA.
Neither SACSCOC accreditation nor SARA settles licensure. Loyola notes that SARA leaves professional licensing rules alone, and the university publishes its own state-by-state determinations for nursing: all licensure-track programs meet Louisiana's educational requirements, while other states vary by program. SARA also leaves your practicum license rule where it was: every state hosting your practicum hours still needs your active RN license.
Why accreditation matters for your placement, and how we use it
Accreditation follows you past graduation. LSBN's licensure rule for APRNs, LAC 46:XLVII.4507, lists an accredited graduate degree or post-master's certificate in your role and population among the requirements, together with national certification. Your program's accreditation is part of your path to that license, not just a line in the catalog.
It also helps at the site level. Questions Loyola students ask
Is Loyola New Orleans' nursing program CCNE accredited?
Yes. Loyola's baccalaureate, master's and DNP nursing programs hold accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, according to Loyola. The Nursing Student Handbook and the certificate pages also list the Post-Graduate Certificate program, while the bulletin and accreditation page do not, so certificate students needing proof should ask the School of Nursing.
When is Loyola's next CCNE accreditation review?
Loyola's pages do not publish a CCNE review date. The only upcoming review Loyola states is for Nurse Anesthesia, where the Council on Accreditation's next review is scheduled for Fall 2028. For a CCNE date on an application or employer form, ask the School of Nursing directly.
Is Loyola's Nurse-Midwifery program accredited?
Loyola describes both of its midwifery offerings, the MSN and the Post-Graduate Certificate, as preaccredited by ACME, the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education. If that status affects your certification or licensing plans, ask the Nurse-Midwifery Program Director how it applies to your cohort before you enroll.
Does accreditation affect my Louisiana APRN license?
Yes. LSBN's APRN rule requires an accredited graduate degree or post-master's certificate in the APRN role and population, national certification in that role and population, and an RN license, Louisiana or multistate, that is current and unencumbered. Is Loyola authorized to teach online nursing students in my state?
Loyola participates in NC-SARA for online programs in member states, but SARA does not decide licensing. For nursing, check Loyola's licensure table and the School of Nursing State Approvals Map, which restrict some programs in some states and do not always agree. Confirm your state with the School of Nursing.
