What to include in your message

- The NURS course the placement is for, such as

- The term your practicum starts and, if your syllabus shows it, the first class date
- Hours still needed, if the practicum has already begun
- Anything already in motion: a preceptor who said yes, a site you contacted, or a Wishlist request sitting in Exxat
A few sentences are enough. If we need anything else, we ask for it in the first reply, and nothing has to be perfect before you write.
Why each detail matters
The course sets the patient population: children and pregnant patients for NURS G829, acute care for the AGACNP practicums, psychiatric care for the PMHNP courses, and for project courses a leader in an organization that suits your DNP project.
Your city and state decide which license rules apply and whether Loyola's State Approvals Map allows your program there. Your RN license has to be active in each state where you do practicum hours, per Loyola's handbook.
The term tells us how much of Loyola's three-month lead time is left, and whether to start with sites that already hold a Loyola agreement.
Hours still needed tell us whether this is a fresh search or a catch-up, where a second preceptor added to your current placement may be the quickest answer.

If your practicum is already at risk
Say so in the first line of your message, with your start date or the weeks left in the term. Urgent cases go to the front of the queue. Each of these pages explains the Loyola rules behind a common emergency:
- No preceptor yet
- Practicum starting within three months
- Preceptor left partway through the term
- Behind on hours near the end of the term
When a placement problem threatens your finish date, mention your expected graduation term too, so we can plan every remaining practicum rather than only the next one. If a site has already given you a start date, or your faculty of record has set a date for your Wishlist, include those as well, since dates from Loyola or the site decide the order in which we work.
Preceptors and practices
If you are a clinician open to precepting a Loyola nursing student, choose "I'm a preceptor" in the program list and tell us your specialty, practice setting, city and license state. A placement advisor gets in touch when a Loyola student's course and dates fit your practice. Practices outside Louisiana are welcome too, wherever Loyola's approvals cover the student's program. It helps to mention the patients you see most, such as families, children, older adults or people with psychiatric needs, and whether your site has hosted Loyola students before.
The precepting page explains what Loyola asks of preceptors and sites: the Preceptor Agreement, the affiliation agreement, evaluations in Exxat and, for Louisiana practices, the state board's preceptor rules.
Questions only Loyola can answer
Some questions belong with Loyola: your plan of study, a compliance hold, a grade, or whether a specific setting will be approved for your course. Your faculty of record owns the course, your program director rules on the plan and special settings, and agreements, compliance and Exxat sit with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator.
Send those questions to them directly. If one reaches us first, we tell you which of those offices decides it and what to have ready when you ask. Questions about the Exxat subscriptions, the background check invitation from the School of Nursing's contracted company, or registration in LORA also belong on Loyola's side. Keep a copy of any answer Loyola gives you in writing, since a site may ask the same question later.
Questions Loyola students ask
Do I need a preceptor in mind before I write?
Not at all. Send your program, course, location and term and we start from there. If you already have a lead, such as a practice that said maybe or a preceptor whose paperwork stalled, include it and we will check it against Loyola's rules alongside the new search.
Can I contact you before my Loyola program starts?
Yes, and early planning is the easiest way to keep Loyola's three-month lead time. The first practicum falls in the fourth term of the posted MSN FNP plan and term 3 of the BSN-DNP AGACNP plan, so mapping your searches early pays off.
What happens to the information I send?
Your message goes to our placement desk and is used to plan your search. Anything that goes to Loyola is filed through your own Exxat account, when you choose to submit it. The privacy policy explains how we handle what you send.
Can I message you about a DNP project site?
Yes. Each DNP Scholarly Project course, from NURS G939 to NURS G944, runs 180 hours and needs a project site plus a preceptor other than your relative, employer or direct supervisor. Tell us the project topic and your setting and we look for a fit.
