Adding hours the way Loyola counts them

Extra time counts only when it follows the same rules as the rest. Your preceptor must be physically present and supervising you directly for each hour, the hours must fall inside an approved placement, and they have to be logged in Exxat. A shift with a colleague who has no Preceptor Agreement on file, or at a second location with no agreement, adds nothing.

• Longer or extra shifts with your preceptor. The AGACNP Practicum Guide allows shifts of 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours built around when the preceptor works, including weekends and holidays.
• A second approved preceptor. Another qualified clinician, at the same site or a new one, can carry part of the load once the placement paperwork for them is approved in Exxat.
• Clinical time kept apart from your job. At your own workplace, clinical hours must sit in another department and at other times than your job, per the Employed at Clinical Site Attestation, so they cannot overlap a paid shift.
• Direct care, not call time. Nurse-Midwifery counts supervised direct patient care toward its 910 hours; call hours without patient contact are excluded.

Nurse Anesthesia works within program limits (the 2023 handbook caps clinical time at four days or 40 assigned hours weekly), so extra time there is a program decision.

When the hours will not fit: Incomplete or In Progress

If the gap cannot close by the last class, Loyola has two grades built for unfinished work, and your faculty of record decides which applies. The full policy sits on the Incompletes and time limits page; these are the points that matter in an hours crunch.

• An Incomplete needs about 75 percent of the work done, a passing standing and circumstances beyond your control.
• The request goes in before the last class or final exam, not after grades post.
• Whatever remains must be submitted within six weeks of the next term's start, or the I turns into an F; Fall 2026 Incompletes turn to F on March 1, 2027.
• On probation, you also need the associate dean to approve it.
• In Progress (IP) applies to practicum-style courses spanning more than a single term, and normally wraps up within a year.

Moving the practicum's own start or end date is a separate step, done on the Early Start/Extension Practicum approval form with the faculty of record's signature.
