About Loyola Preceptor
Loyola Preceptor is an independent preceptor placement service built for Loyola University New Orleans nursing students. We find preceptors and sites that fit each Loyola course, check them against Loyola's rules and prepare the paperwork, so students reach Loyola's placement office with a request that is ready to review.

What we do
Loyola asks its NP and DNP students to select their own preceptor and site, and its placement office handles contracts and compliance once a student brings a site forward. The search in between is the hardest part of a practicum, and it is the part we take on.

Built around Loyola's process
Every nursing school runs its own placement system, and Loyola's has specific pieces: Exxat Prism with its Required Documents and STEPS subscriptions, the Explore Clinical Locations map, the Standard Loyola Affiliation Agreement, the Preceptor Agreement, the Wishlist and the Placement Approved status that has to appear before hours count. We work to those pieces directly, using Loyola's own names for them.
The course comes first in every search: pediatric and obstetric hours for NURS G829, acute care preceptors with shifts a student can match for the AGACNP practicums, and for a DNP Scholarly Project, a leader in an organization that suits the project. We plan each search at least three months out, the lead time Loyola gives, and keep a backup site moving until approval. The how it works page walks through each step.
Who we help
We work mainly with students in Loyola's NP and DNP tracks: the three FNP routes (MSN, BSN-DNP and certificate), both AGACNP options, both PMHNP options and the MSN-DNP Executive Leader with its project practicums. They live in Greater New Orleans, across Louisiana and in the other states where Loyola's online and hybrid students study.
Some programs place students themselves. Nurse Anesthesia assigns clinical sites, and BSN and ABSN clinicals run through Loyola's partners, so for anesthesia students our help centers on DNP Scholarly Project sites, and for bachelor's students on the graduate programs that come later. Nurse-Midwifery students who want a rotation outside Louisiana need a signed letter from a CNM or approved clinician at least six months ahead, and finding that clinician is a search we run well. How we work with Loyola's offices
Every placement is approved by Loyola's placement office and faculty, who also hold the affiliation agreements. The Clinical Practicum Coordinator tracks placement needs and compliance and helps with Exxat, and program directors rule on special settings. Our work sits in front of theirs: we make sure what reaches them is complete and fits Loyola's rules the first time.
Everything goes through the student. You file your own Wishlist from your Exxat account, you sign your own forms, and your faculty of record owns your course. We prepare, check and follow up, and we tell you plainly which Loyola office decides each question, so you always know who to ask. When a site raises something only Loyola can settle, such as a contract clause or an extra compliance item, we help you bring it to the right office quickly. - Plain answers. Where Loyola's own documents disagree, on hours, states or deadlines, we show both versions and point you to the office that settles it.

- Course-by-course planning. Students with several practicums get each search timed against their plan of study, so the next preceptor is lined up before the current course ends.
- Loyola's vocabulary. Every document we prepare uses the names Loyola uses, so nothing needs translating when it reaches the placement office.
How our guides are written
The guides on this site follow Loyola's bulletin, program pages, practicum guides, forms and licensure disclosures, and each one lists its Loyola sources at the end. We update them as Loyola publishes new versions, and every page shows the date it was last checked. Where a Loyola rule has a page of its own, such as the State Approvals Map or the affiliation agreement, other guides link to it instead of repeating it.
On your own program, the final say belongs to the Clinical Practicum Coordinator, your program director, your practicum guide and your plan of study. Which Loyola programs do you help with?
Mainly the NP and DNP tracks where students select their own preceptor: the FNP routes, AGACNP, PMHNP and the DNP Scholarly Project practicums, Executive Leader included. We also help Nurse-Midwifery students with an out-of-state request and Nurse Anesthesia students with their project sites.
Do you work with Loyola students outside Louisiana?
Yes. Loyola's online and hybrid students live in many states, and practicums happen near home. We search wherever Loyola approves practicums for your program and flag the states where Loyola's licensure table and State Approvals Map disagree, so you can confirm with the School of Nursing.
How do you choose preceptors?
By the course first: the population it needs, the setting Loyola allows and any director approvals. Then by Loyola's baseline for the preceptor: a license valid where the site sits, board certification, over 2,080 practice hours, no family relationship and supervision in person. At Louisiana sites we also check the state's two-student limit.
What does a placement cost?
Each quote depends on the course, the setting, your location and how soon the practicum starts. Our cost page lists the factors behind each quote, and a placement advisor gives you yours once we know your program and term. Loyola's own requirements, such as the two Exxat subscriptions and the background check, are separate costs.
