Loyola New Orleans practicum hours in Delaware
Small state, long paper trail. When a school based in another state wants a Delaware hospital or clinic to host one of its students, that school must first notify Delaware's Board of Nursing and hand over preceptor names, site assignments and license copies. Loyola University New Orleans lists Delaware as approved for every program, so for Delaware students the real work is a complete file, early.

Notice to the Delaware Board comes first
The rules at 24 Del. Admin. Code 1900 set Delaware's standards for nursing education, and they reach every nursing program with no carve-out for graduate study. Under them, a school based outside Delaware tells the Board it intends to use a Delaware clinical facility before it does so, and backs that notice with a packet:
- Evidence that its home board approved the program, or that a national body accredits it
- Copies of the school's written agreements with its clinical agencies
- The qualifications the school sets for clinical faculty and for preceptors
- The name of every faculty member and preceptor, matched to the site where each will teach
- Copies of each one's current Delaware or compact license
Each facility needs its own Board approval, based on forms the school submits, before a student can be assigned to it, and Board representatives may visit the site. Nothing on that list can be filled in until your preceptor and site are real, so Loyola's three-month lead time is tight in Delaware, not generous.
Delaware in Loyola's sources
| Source | Dated | Delaware |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced practice licensure table | June 2, 2026 | Meets, no note |
| BSN licensure table | June 2, 2026 | Meets |
| State Approvals Map | July 15, 2026 | Approved, all programs |
No disagreement to sort out. As in every approved state, the preceptor and site are yours to find as an NP or DNP student, while Loyola's placement office puts the affiliation agreement in place. In Delaware that signed agreement pulls double duty, because agency agreements are one of the documents the Board expects to receive.
Full practice, and how Delaware defines a preceptor
AANP classifies Delaware as full practice. The state's education rules define a preceptor narrowly, as a validly licensed nurse whose education reaches at least the BSN. Online-program faculty who instruct or precept inside a Delaware facility must also hold a license that matches or exceeds the level of the student's program.
Loyola casts a wider net: its FNP guide lets NPs, MDs, DOs and PAs supervise the first two Family Primary Care Management practicums. Planning to name a physician or a PA? Ask the Clinical Practicum Coordinator how Delaware's definition applies before you submit the site. Loyola's own conditions are on the preceptor requirements page.
Wilmington, Dover and Seaford
Delaware's population clusters in three census areas: around Wilmington, as part of the larger Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metro; around Dover, its own metro area; and in the Seaford micropolitan area. ChristianaCare, Bayhealth and Beebe Healthcare are the in-state systems students hear about most, along with Nemours Children's Health, a pediatric system spread over several states whose Delaware hospital is in Wilmington.
Pediatric reach matters to FNP students heading into NURS G829, which calls for 150 pediatric and 50 obstetric hours, so family practices with a heavy child caseload deserve an early call. Every system writes its own student rules. And because the Wilmington metro spills into Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, a site across any of those lines brings another state's rules into play; Loyola's licensure table has a Pennsylvania note, explained in the Pennsylvania guide.
Compact licensing, RN and APRN
Delaware has been in the RN compact since its January 19, 2018 start. A Delaware multistate license keeps you active for Delaware practicum hours and meets Loyola's rule for enrolled graduate students in one step. Delaware went further than most by enacting the APRN Compact on August 4, 2021; North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming make up the rest of the five enacting states. Seven are needed before that compact switches on. The RN license page explains Loyola's timing.
Why Delaware students choose us
Delaware rewards a complete file, and completeness is how we work. As each preceptor says yes, we collect the license copy, credentials and site details, so Loyola's placement office has what both Loyola and the Delaware Board want in a single handoff. We favor practices that fit your course, including those with the pediatric volume FPCM III demands, and we remain on call through the last signed hour of your practicum.
Questions Loyola students ask
Who sends Delaware's clinical facility paperwork, me or Loyola?
Delaware's rule makes the notice and supporting documents the school's job. What falls to you is getting the details settled early: your preceptor's name, license and credentials, and the site you will attend. Ask the Clinical Practicum Coordinator how far ahead of your practicum term Loyola wants those details for a Delaware placement.
Is Delaware in the APRN Compact?
Delaware enacted it in 2021, one of five states so far, but the APRN Compact only takes effect after seven states enact it. For your practicum, the license that matters is your RN license, Delaware or multistate, active and unencumbered. After graduation, APRN licensure follows the rules of whichever state you practice in.
Can a physician precept me in Delaware?
Loyola's FNP guide accepts board-certified physicians, but Delaware's education rules picture a preceptor as a nurse holding at least a BSN, with a valid license. Loyola decides how those two fit together for its students, so raise any physician or PA preceptor with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator before you enter the site on your Wishlist.
Can I live in Delaware and train in Pennsylvania or Maryland?
Possibly. Maryland is approved for all programs on Loyola's map, and Pennsylvania is approved on the map with a note on the licensure table. Either way you need an RN license active in that state and must meet its board's expectations, so read that state's guide and check with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator first.
