Planning a Loyola New Orleans practicum in Connecticut

Loyola University New Orleans clears Connecticut for every nursing program, on its licensure table and on its State Approvals Map alike. Two recent facts shape a Connecticut plan, though. The state only entered the Nurse Licensure Compact in the fall of 2025, and it shares a long border with New York, where Loyola's map rules practicums out. Keep your site on the Connecticut side.

Connecticut is a compact state now

Connecticut's compact start date was October 1, 2025. From that day, per the state's Department of Public Health, an RN student may work in Connecticut under a Connecticut-issued license, or under the multistate license from whichever compact state is legally home.

That date changes how Loyola's license rules land for Connecticut residents. Loyola wants two things from graduate students: an active RN license wherever a practicum happens, and a Louisiana or multistate license throughout enrollment. A Connecticut-issued multistate license now covers both. If yours was issued before the change, ask the Department of Public Health whether it is single-state or multistate. Loyola's sources, and two neighbors that differ

For Connecticut itself, one sentence does it: Loyola's June 2, 2026 licensure tables mark it as meeting requirements for advanced practice and BSN programs, and the July 15, 2026 State Approvals Map shows every program approved, with no note and no conflict.

The neighbors need more care. On Loyola's map, New York carries a restriction that no clinicals may be completed there, and Loyola is not taking New York applicants who cannot do practicums in another state. Rhode Island is green on the July 2026 map but red on the August 2025 version, which Loyola's state authorization pages still link. Before you chase a clinic across either border, read the New York and Rhode Island guides and check with the School of Nursing.

Collaboration first, full practice later

AANP files Connecticut under full practice, earned rather than automatic: a new Connecticut NP first works alongside a collaborating physician for three years or more, logging a minimum of 2,000 hours. The NPs you contact will be a mix, some still inside that collaborative stretch and others well past it.

Loyola does not care which side of that line your preceptor stands on, only that the Loyola conditions are met: board certification, an unencumbered Connecticut license, over a year in practice and no family tie. Connecticut's regulations on clinical teaching

Connecticut's nursing regulations treat a program approved by its own state's board as deemed approved (section 20-90-59), and no separate application is spelled out. Programs using Connecticut agencies still owe the state its contract rule and its ratios: no more than two students per preceptor, sixteen precepted students per faculty member, and evaluation left in faculty hands. Section 20-90-51(f) describes preceptors of advanced-level students as RNs licensed in Connecticut or the state of practice, holding a bachelor's in nursing, with two years in the role or specialty.

Those sections target pre-licensure education and leave APRN programs unaddressed. How they touch a Loyola graduate practicum is a question for the Clinical Practicum Coordinator. What applies without question is Loyola's affiliation agreement, signed by the site before hours begin.

Where Connecticut students search

Connecticut's four largest metro areas, in order, are Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford, Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury, New Haven, then Waterbury-Shelton. Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health are major names, as are UConn Health and Trinity Health Of New England; out west, Danbury Hospital and other onetime Nuvance hospitals now belong to Northwell Health, a New York system. A system's name tells you where to look; its own process decides who trains there.

Questions Loyola students ask

Is Connecticut approved for Loyola New Orleans online nursing programs?

Yes. Loyola's licensure tables, updated June 2, 2026, list Connecticut as meeting requirements, and the School of Nursing's map dated July 15, 2026 shows all programs approved. As an NP or DNP student you pick your own Connecticut preceptor and site, and the placement office then handles the affiliation agreement, which Loyola says to begin three months ahead.

Can I do practicum hours in New York if I live in Connecticut?

Not under Loyola's current map, which bars clinicals in New York, and Loyola's licensure table carries its own New York note as well. Build your plan around a Connecticut preceptor and site, and clear any cross-border idea with the School of Nursing first.

Does my multistate license from another compact state work in Connecticut?

Since October 1, 2025, it does for RN students, according to Connecticut's Department of Public Health. Keep in mind that a multistate license follows your legal home state. If you have moved to Connecticut, confirm with the licensing board which license now applies, and let your program advisor know before any move, as Loyola asks.

Can one Connecticut preceptor take two Loyola students?

Connecticut's regulations cap a preceptor at two students for the programs they govern, which are programs leading to licensure. For Loyola NP students, take any shared-preceptor idea to the Clinical Practicum Coordinator before you and a classmate plan around the same clinician, since each placement needs its own approval.
