Living in Wyoming as a Loyola University New Orleans nursing student
Wyoming appears in red, not approved, on Loyola University New Orleans' State Approvals Map, the School of Nursing's file dated July 15, 2026, just as it did on the August 2025 edition. Loyola's licensure table, dated June 2, 2026, shows Wyoming meeting requirements with no note. That split makes the School of Nursing's reply, in writing, your first step, whether you are applying, already enrolled in Wyoming, or planning to move there.

Loyola gives no reason for the red, and neither map lists Wyoming as pending. Rather than choosing between the documents, bring both to the School of Nursing with your track named, and ask about enrollment and practicum location as separate questions. Wyoming's rules for programs based elsewhere
The Wyoming board's Chapter 6 rules give an out-of-state program two ways in: registration with Wyoming's Department of Education, or approval under NC-SARA, the agreement Loyola participates in. The board does not approve post-licensure programs (its list: APRN, DNP, MSN, RN-to-BSN), but it does expect a written notice from the school whenever one of the school's students is set to begin a clinical learning experience in the state, and it offers a sample cover letter for that notice.
The school must also have its written contract with the facility signed before any clinical day, keeping a copy for the board. Pre-licensure programs face more: they need the board's permission first. Loyola's map is a separate layer on top: whatever Wyoming permits, the School of Nursing currently shows the state as not approved.
Planning around the red
- Applicants: ask whether Wyoming residents are accepted into your track and, if they are, where practicums would take place.

Practice and search areas in Wyoming
Wyoming NPs have full practice authority under AANP's classification. Cheyenne and Casper are its two metros, and Gillette anchors a smaller micropolitan area. Hospitals of note: in Cheyenne, Cheyenne Regional; in Casper, Banner Health's Wyoming Medical Center; in Gillette, Campbell County Health; in Laramie, Ivinson Memorial, affiliated with UCHealth; and in Sheridan, Sheridan Memorial. They show where care concentrates in the state; any of them would still need the School of Nursing's clearance and a Loyola affiliation agreement before hosting practicum hours.
Licenses and the APRN Compact in Wyoming
Compact licenses have been honored in Wyoming since January 2018, which makes a multistate RN license valid there. Wyoming also passed the APRN Compact, one of five enacting states alongside Utah, Delaware and the two Dakotas, but that compact does not switch on until a seventh state enacts it. Questions Loyola students ask
Can I take Loyola New Orleans' online nursing program while living in Wyoming?
Loyola's sources conflict here. Loyola's June 2, 2026 table says the curriculum meets Wyoming's requirements, while the School of Nursing's maps for 2026 and 2025 show Wyoming not approved. Ask the School of Nursing, and get its reply on record before enrolling, whether you can study from Wyoming and where your practicums would be.
Does Wyoming require out-of-state NP programs to notify the board?
Yes. The board's Chapter 6 rules excuse APRN, DNP and MSN programs from approval but require the school to send written notice before one of its students begins clinical learning in Wyoming, and to have its facility contract signed in advance. The notice comes from the school; you do not file it yourself.
Does NC-SARA membership mean Loyola can place students in Wyoming?
Not by itself. Wyoming's Chapter 6 rules accept NC-SARA approval as one route for an out-of-state program, and Loyola participates in SARA. But SARA does not cover professional licensing, and Loyola's own map still shows Wyoming not approved, so the School of Nursing's answer is the one that counts.
Is Wyoming in the Nurse Licensure Compact?
It is, and has been since January 2018. A multistate RN license from Wyoming or another compact state is valid there, and a Wyoming-issued multistate license also covers Loyola's requirement of a Louisiana or multistate license throughout your enrollment. The license question is separate from the map's red status, which only the School of Nursing can resolve.
What is the APRN Compact, and does it affect my Loyola practicum?
Wyoming has enacted the APRN Compact, an interstate agreement for advanced practice licenses, but the compact stays dormant until seven states have passed it, and five had done so as of 2026. Your Loyola practicum runs on your RN license, so the compact does not change your practicum plans today.
