All three line up, and so does the August 2025 map that Loyola's state authorization pages still link. For an online FNP or DNP student in Denver or Colorado Springs, that green light means the next moves are yours: pick a preceptor and site, then let the placement office draw up the affiliation agreement.

Full practice, with a mentorship clause

AANP counts Colorado among its full practice states, with one string attached. Before a Colorado NP can prescribe independently, they must log 750 hours under a formal arrangement with a physician or APRN mentor and attest to it. The requirement concerns prescribing rights only; it says nothing about who may teach you.

Full practice widens the doors worth knocking on. NP-owned clinics become realistic homes for Family Primary Care Management hours, as long as the NP clears Loyola's bar: board certified, practicing on an unencumbered Colorado license for over a year, and not related to you. What Colorado asks of programs from other states

Colorado's board rules (3 CCR 716-1) reserve the term nursing education program, in Rule 1.2, for the basic course of study behind an initial RN or LPN license. Nothing in that rule asks a Louisiana-based graduate program like Loyola's to seek approval or file notice before a Colorado placement. Each facility still runs its own onboarding, and Loyola's process still governs the calendar: a signed agreement and Placement Approved in Exxat come before hour one.

Colorado also offers a tax break to certain unpaid preceptors who teach in its rural and frontier shortage zones. A 2022 bill, HB22-1005, broadened the list of clinicians who can claim it while limiting it to preceptors of students at Colorado's own accredited schools. Teaching a Loyola student does not appear to count.

Denver, Colorado Springs and the Wyoming line

Colorado's biggest metro areas are Denver-Aurora-Centennial, Colorado Springs, Greeley and Fort Collins-Loveland. Denver Health, UCHealth and HCA HealthONE are big players, alongside CommonSpirit Health and Intermountain Health, the Utah-based system behind Denver's Saint Joseph Hospital. Use them to see where teaching clinicians cluster; each organization decides on students through its own channels.

If a clinic just over the Wyoming border looks handy from Fort Collins or Greeley, stop there. Loyola's July 2026 map paints Wyoming red, not approved, while the June 2026 licensure table calls it a state that meets requirements. Only the School of Nursing can settle that for you, and the Wyoming guide shows both sources.

Your license for Colorado clinicals

Colorado has issued compact licenses since the NLC went live on January 19, 2018. Hold a multistate license with Colorado as your home state and you meet two Loyola rules with one card: active where the practicum happens, and multistate for as long as you are enrolled. Can I complete a Loyola New Orleans online FNP from Colorado?

Colorado is approved for all School of Nursing programs on Loyola's July 2026 map and meets requirements on the June 2026 licensure table. In practice, you would choose a Colorado preceptor and site for each FPCM practicum, keep your Colorado or multistate RN license active, and hold off on logging hours until Exxat shows Placement Approved.

Does Colorado's 750-hour mentorship rule stop an NP from precepting me?

That rule shapes an NP's own path to prescribing, not their eligibility to teach. Loyola looks for a board-certified NP with an unencumbered Colorado license and more than one year, or 2,080 hours, of practice, who is on site for every hour you log. Someone who checks those boxes can go on your Wishlist.

Does Colorado's rural preceptor credit cover someone teaching me?

Probably not. HB22-1005 tied the credit to students at accredited schools inside Colorado, and Loyola University New Orleans is based in Louisiana. Make your request on other grounds that matter to a busy clinician: a well-matched student, a clear schedule and paperwork that arrives complete.

Can I use a Wyoming clinic if I live in northern Colorado?

Treat Wyoming as unresolved. Loyola's July 2026 State Approvals Map marks it not approved, yet the June 2026 licensure table lists it as meeting requirements. Get a direct answer from the School of Nursing and the Clinical Practicum Coordinator before you contact any Wyoming preceptor, and keep a Colorado site as your working plan.
