Loyola New Orleans practicums from a Vermont home base
Vermont is open to every Loyola University New Orleans nursing program: the June 2, 2026 licensure table says it meets requirements, and the July 15, 2026 State Approvals Map colors it green for all programs. The Vermont detail to know before you ask anyone is the nursing board's preceptor rule, which leaves physician assistants off the list for APRN students.

Vermont on Loyola's published lists
All three Loyola records say the same thing, so a Vermont student has nothing to reconcile. What remains is Loyola's usual order of work: you pick the preceptor and site, and the placement office sets up the affiliation agreement well before your first hour.

Two kinds of clinician, and PAs are not one
Vermont's board, in its published FAQ, names two kinds of clinician who can guide an APRN learner: a fellow APRN or a physician. Either one needs an active Vermont license with no restrictions, a background in your role and population focus, and direct contact with Loyola's faculty. Physician assistants are not on that list.
Loyola's 2025 FNP guide opens FPCM I and II to a PA as well as an NP, MD or DO, but at a Vermont site the state's narrower list decides, so plan each FPCM course around an NP or physician. Loyola's preceptor requirements still apply on top: board certification, more than a year of practice, no relatives.
Full practice, once the first two years pass
AANP counts Vermont among its full practice states. New Vermont NPs spend their first 24 months and 2,400 hours working under a collaborating agreement, held with either a physician or an APRN licensed in the state, and after that they practice on their own authority.
For your search the payoff is choice: a seasoned Vermont NP can run a clinic with no physician attached, and that clinic can host your primary care hours once Loyola's agreement is signed.
What Vermont's rules say about outside schools
Part 5 of the board's rules, effective May 11, 2023, makes Board approval a condition of running a nursing education program inside Vermont, though programs run purely online under approval from Vermont's Agency of Education are exempt. The rules do not take up a Louisiana school's graduate students at a Vermont clinic directly, and the statute's student exemption, 26 V.S.A. 1583(2), reaches only learners in programs the Board approved.

Burlington, Rutland and the Upper Valley
The 2025 Census estimates give the Burlington-South Burlington metro roughly 228,000 people and the Rutland micropolitan area close to 60,000; Lebanon-Claremont, shared with New Hampshire, has about 87,000 residents on the Vermont side.
Porter, Central Vermont and UVM Medical Center all sit under University of Vermont Health. Dartmouth Health, headquartered in New Hampshire, counts Southwestern Vermont Medical Center as a member, and Rutland Regional Medical Center rounds out the larger names. Before approaching any of them, check Loyola's Explore Clinical Locations map for sites already under agreement.
Over the borders, answers split: New Hampshire is green on Loyola's map, while Loyola's map says clinicals cannot be completed in New York.
Your RN license at a Vermont site
Vermont's first multistate licenses date from February 1, 2022, when it implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact. Under Rule 4.1, a nurse licensed multistate by some other compact member needs no Vermont license until Vermont becomes their primary state of residence. A Vermont resident, then, should hold a Vermont multistate license: active at the site, and meeting Loyola's call for a Louisiana or multistate license throughout enrollment. Is a PA allowed to supervise my FPCM hours in Vermont?
Not at a Vermont site. Loyola's FNP guide would accept a PA for FPCM I and II, yet Vermont's board confines APRN student preceptors to APRNs and physicians who hold active, unrestricted Vermont licenses and have worked in your role and population focus. Settle the choice with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator before the Wishlist goes in.
Is Vermont approved for Loyola New Orleans online nursing programs?
Yes. The School of Nursing map dated July 15, 2026 shows Vermont approved for all programs, and both June 2, 2026 licensure tables, advanced practice and BSN, list it as meeting requirements. Selecting the preceptor and site is still your job, and hours count only after Exxat shows Placement Approved.
Do I need a Louisiana RN license if I live in Vermont?
Not when your Vermont license is multistate, which Vermont has offered since February 1, 2022. Loyola asks enrolled graduate students for a Louisiana or multistate license. A single-state license leaves that rule unmet, so fix it early; Loyola's license page explains when each program checks.
Could Vermont's preceptor incentive grant pay someone teaching me?
It would not. Act 183 of 2022 set aside money once, for fiscal year 2023, to reward nurses employed at Vermont's critical access hospitals for precepting students from Vermont's own nursing programs. A Louisiana school's students fall outside that design. What persuades a Vermont clinician is a prepared student and a tidy request.
