Studying with Loyola University New Orleans from Texas
Loyola University New Orleans clears Texas for every nursing program, on its licensure table and its School of Nursing map alike, so Texas residents can study from home. The Texas-specific planning comes at the practicum: NP preceptors here work under physician delegation, and the Board of Nursing's approvals for outside schools apply only to pre-licensure programs.

What Loyola publishes for Texas
Loyola's state documents all treat Texas the same way, with no note attached.
| Loyola source | Date | Result for Texas |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced practice (MSN and DNP) licensure table | June 2, 2026 | Meets Texas educational requirements, no note |
| BSN (pre-licensure) licensure table | June 2, 2026 | Meets, no note |
| School of Nursing State Approvals Map | July 15, 2026 | Approved for all programs |
| Earlier approvals map, still linked | August 20, 2025 | Approved for all programs |
A Houston or Dallas FNP, PMHNP or DNP student can train at a Texas site once an RN license active in Texas and a signed Loyola affiliation agreement are in place. The licensure disclosures page reads every state side by side.
Restricted practice and who can precept you
AANP puts Texas in restricted practice, the tightest of its three categories. Every Texas NP needs a supervising physician who delegates authority, the written protocols recording that delegation stay in force for the NP's whole career, and Schedule II prescribing is confined to particular settings.
Texas's standards for its own APRN programs (22 TAC 219.10) open precepting to licensed APRNs and to any other currently licensed professional with the skill to supervise and teach, under a written agreement binding program, preceptor and agency. Loyola's preceptor requirements then apply in Texas as everywhere, starting with board certification and more than a year in practice. Because a delegating physician stands behind every Texas NP, ask about that physician as well when you plan FPCM I or II.
The Texas Board of Nursing and schools from other states
Before a nursing school from another state holds clinicals in Texas, the Texas board wants to have approved it. The May 2026 revision of Education Guideline 3.1.3 aims that requirement at programs leading to a first license: vocational nursing, RN diploma, associate, BSN and entry-level master's. Graduate and APRN programs sit outside the out-of-state approval rules, and the board posts a public list of the pre-licensure schools it has cleared.
For a Loyola NP or DNP student, then, no board filing stands between you and a Texas site; the site's own terms, starting with the affiliation agreement, take its place. The clinicals outside Louisiana guide lists the compliance extras host sites tend to add.
Where Texas NP students search
The two biggest Texas metros in the Census Bureau's 2025 estimates, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington and Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands, hold roughly 16.4 million people between them, and San Antonio-New Braunfels and Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos each sit a little under 3 million. Houston Methodist and University Health in San Antonio are among the big systems, alongside UT Southwestern Medical Center, Texas Health Resources and Baylor Scott & White Health, and each writes its own student terms.
Plenty of strong family practice sites are independent, and an office that accepts Loyola's standard agreement unchanged clears the contract step sooner. Texas incentives pass NP preceptors by: the state's tuition exemption goes to Texas-resident RNs teaching in public pre-licensure programs, and its Nursing Shortage Reduction Program makes grants to schools, not to individual clinicians.
Your RN license for a Texas site
Texas is a compact state, with its NLC implementation dated January 19, 2018. A Texas multistate license settles two rules together: it is valid at your Texas site, and it satisfies Loyola's requirement to carry a Louisiana or multistate license throughout enrollment. A single-state Texas license covers only the first.
The APRN Compact is not law in Texas, and Loyola's disclosures remind graduates that licensing follows the rules of whichever state they practice in. Your preceptor's Texas license must be current and unencumbered; an NP's is uploaded to the Wishlist as a Nursys PDF. Loyola's timing is on the RN license page.
Why Texas students choose us
Texas students choose us because we work their own metro in depth. We find NPs and physicians whose patient mix fits your FPCM course, confirm every Texas license, and ask on the first call whether the office will take Loyola's standard agreement, keeping your three months of lead time intact. Approval rests with Loyola's placement office and faculty, who receive a Wishlist with nothing missing. If a Texas preceptor leaves mid-term, we line up a replacement. Start with your city and course.
Questions Loyola students ask
Is a Texas Board of Nursing filing needed before my Loyola NP practicum?
The board's rule for schools based outside Texas targets pre-licensure programs rather than graduate or APRN programs, and Loyola's July 15, 2026 map shows Texas approved for all programs. What your Texas site does need is Loyola's affiliation agreement, signed, and a request marked Placement Approved in Exxat before hour one.
Can a Texas physician supervise my Loyola FNP hours?
For FPCM I and II, yes: Loyola's FNP guide accepts a board-certified MD or DO, and PAs too. FPCM III needs a preceptor whose patients fit that course's pediatric and obstetric focus, and an FPCM IV specialty site first needs the FNP Director's sign-off. Any physician must hold an active, unencumbered Texas license.
Does Texas reward NP preceptors who teach Loyola students?
Texas's preceptor tuition exemption is limited to Texas-resident RNs precepting in public pre-licensure programs, so it does not reach an NP teaching a graduate student. Loyola lists no preceptor benefit, so your pitch rests on the teaching and your fit with the practice.
I live in East Texas. Could I do my hours in Louisiana?
Yes, as long as your RN license is active in Louisiana, which a Texas multistate license handles. A Louisiana site follows LSBN's rules: the preceptor holds a Louisiana license and takes at most two graduate APRN students at once. The Louisiana guide has the details.
