Loyola University New Orleans NP students in Arizona
Loyola University New Orleans publishes two different answers for Arizona. Its advanced practice licensure table (June 2, 2026) says practicum is approved for the FNP program only, for now, while the approvals map kept by its School of Nursing (July 15, 2026) marks Arizona approved for all programs. FNP students find both documents open to Arizona; AGACNP, PMHNP and other graduate students should get the School of Nursing's ruling before enrolling or planning an Arizona site.

Two Loyola answers for Arizona
The table's note is marked "for now", and the map carries no note for Arizona at all. Loyola has not said which document governs, so the track you are admitted to decides how much the gap matters to you. California shows the reverse pattern, with the FNP-only limit on the map instead; the California guide covers it, and the licensure disclosures page lists every split.

What the split means for your track
- FNP applicants and students (MSN, BSN-DNP or certificate): both documents allow Arizona practicums. Confirm with the School of Nursing anyway, since the table frames its approval as temporary.
- AGACNP, PMHNP and other non-FNP graduate students: the table's note leaves Arizona practicums unsettled for you. Get an answer for your track on paper before you accept admission or approach a site.
- Anyone relocating to Arizona: raise the move with your program advisor beforehand. Loyola cautions that moving states can reshape licensure, practicum access and aid, and here the outcome may turn on your program.
Arizona's board reviews out-of-state APRN programs
Arizona's nursing board oversees APRN education inside the state even when the school is somewhere else. Its advisory opinion covering clinicals by APRN programs from other states, last revised in November 2020, makes board approval the first step; no student may start clinical work in Arizona until the program has it.
The review is shorter for a school that is nationally accredited, in good standing, and whose particular APRN track already has approval from its own state's board. After approval, the school keeps records on who holds what license, from program director and faculty to preceptors and students, logs where each student trains, and reports data when the board surveys or audits it. The review is track-specific, so name your program whenever you ask Loyola about Arizona.
Preceptors and search areas in Arizona
Arizona's NPs work under full practice authority, per AANP. When the student comes from an outside program, the board's opinion spells out preceptor credentials: NP preceptors need Arizona APRN certification plus an RN license, Arizona or multistate, carrying no encumbrance, and physicians need an unencumbered medical license from Arizona. Greater Phoenix is where most searches begin, followed by the Tucson area and the smaller metros around Prescott and Lake Havasu City. Well-known names include Banner Health, whose academic centers operate as Banner-University Medicine, Scottsdale's HonorHealth, Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus, Tucson's TMC Health and Phoenix Children's. The RN license for Arizona hours
Compact licenses have worked in Arizona since January 2018. For APRN students from schools based elsewhere, the board wants an RN license without encumbrance that is either Arizona-issued or multistate. Arizona is not among the APRN Compact states.
Loyola's rules run in parallel: an RN license valid wherever your site is, plus a Louisiana or multistate license for the whole time you are enrolled. Can a Loyola New Orleans PMHNP or AGACNP student do practicums in Arizona?
Loyola's sources point in different directions. The June 2, 2026 licensure table approves Arizona practicum for the FNP program only, for now, whereas the School of Nursing's July 2026 map approves every program there. Get the School of Nursing to answer for your specific track before you enroll or line up an Arizona site.
Does an Arizona compact license work for Loyola's license rule?
A multistate RN license satisfies Loyola's rule that you keep a Louisiana or multistate license during enrollment, and it also meets the Arizona board's expectation for APRN students from schools elsewhere, as long as it carries no encumbrance. Check which type of license you actually hold before your first Arizona practicum, and make sure Loyola's records show it.
Does Arizona pay preceptors who teach NP students?
Arizona created a preceptor grant in statute (A.R.S. 36-1806) for people who precept graduate students, APRN students among them, without pay, and gave rural primary care placements first claim. In the state's FY 2027 appropriations report the line shows no money for FY 2026 or FY 2027, and earlier unspent funds went back to the General Fund after June 30, 2026, so the grants look inactive.
What happens if I move to Arizona during my Loyola program?
Talk to your program advisor first; Loyola says a change of state can affect licensing, practicum access and financial aid. In Arizona the result may also depend on your track because of the table's FNP-only note. Plan for an RN license valid in Arizona and an affiliation agreement with any new site before hours begin.
