NURS G827: Family Primary Care Management II Practicum
NURS G827 is the second 200-hour FNP practicum at Loyola University New Orleans, again in outpatient primary care and again open to NP, MD, DO or PA preceptors. It falls in a spring term in every posted FNP plan, so its search usually runs during your FPCM I clinical weeks, and for BSN-DNP students it shares the term with the 180-hour NURS G942 project practicum.

FPCM II in the spring of each FNP plan
Each posted Loyola New Orleans FNP plan puts NURS G827 in a spring term, directly after the fall term that holds FPCM I. It is a 3-credit course with 200 supervised hours.
In the MSN FNP's 3-year plan, FPCM II is in Spring II, the fifth term. The post-graduate FNP certificate plan uses the same Spring II slot. For BSN-DNP FNP students, the 4-year plan pushes it to Spring III, where it sits beside NURS G942 DNP Scholarly Project II, Implementation, a 180-hour course, so that one term carries both courses' hours, 200 plus 180.
The timing has a practical effect. Loyola's FNP guide wants the placement process under way three months or more before a practicum, and three months before a January start falls in the middle of your fall FPCM I term. In other words, the FPCM II search overlaps with your first clinical rotation. Students who plan it before FPCM I begins avoid doing both at full pressure. Staying with your FPCM I preceptor or moving to a new site
You may be able to continue with your FPCM I preceptor. The FNP guide sets the same rules for both courses: outpatient primary care and a preceptor who is an NP, MD, DO or PA and meets the general preceptor standards. Whether FPCM II may continue at the same practice is a question for your course faculty, so ask before you plan around it.
If you stay, ask the Clinical Practicum Coordinator how to submit your FPCM II request in Exxat for the same site and preceptor. Hours for the new course still start only after that request shows Placement Approved.
If you move, the new site goes through the whole sequence: a preceptor who fits, an affiliation agreement check, and a complete Wishlist with the new preceptor's documents uploaded. A site that is already under agreement is processed quickly, and a site that sends its own contract or heavily edits the Standard Loyola Affiliation Agreement can take several months. Spring 2027 dates to plan around
Your syllabus sets your practicum dates, and Loyola has not published which calendar, semester-long or 8-week online, graduate nursing sections use. These are the university's published Spring 2027 dates, so you can see where your 200 hours might have to fit.

- Easter holidays: March 25-29
- First 8-week online session: January 19 to March 18-21
- Second 8-week online session: March 22 to May 13-16
- Last day for course withdrawal (full semester): April 23
Whether you log clinical hours during a university holiday is a question for your syllabus and course faculty, since the preceptor's clinic keeps its own schedule. The academic calendar page lists fall and summer dates as well.
BSN-DNP students: two practicums, two kinds of preceptor
In Spring III, BSN-DNP FNP students carry FPCM II and NURS G942 together, and the two courses answer to different preceptor rules. The FPCM preceptor follows the FNP guide. The project preceptor follows the DNP practicum requirements letter, which bars family members, employers and direct supervisors, and asks for direct supervision of all project hours.
The project side carries separate paperwork. Loyola's DNP Scholarly Project Preceptor-Student Agreement, one form for all three project courses (NURS G939, NURS G942, NURS G944), needs signatures from the project preceptor, you and Loyola faculty. Once a semester, at minimum, the project preceptor and your scholarly project advisor talk by Zoom or phone. Loyola's letter estimates about 12 hours a week for each 180-hour project course.

Questions to settle with your FPCM II faculty
Course content for NURS G827 is set in the syllabus and the FNP practicum guide. These questions are worth settling in writing early in the term, or before it, so nothing surprises you in April.
- May FPCM II continue at the FPCM I site, and with the same preceptor?
- Which session calendar does your section follow, and what are the first and last days for hours?
- How should encounters be recorded in Exxat for this course, and when are logs reviewed?
- When will faculty speak with your preceptor, and when is the preceptor's evaluation due?
- If you want any hours in a setting other than outpatient primary care, what does the Graduate Program Director need from you?
Settings outside outpatient primary care, such as urgent care or a specialty clinic, need that director's approval before hours count; the setting approvals page describes the request.

Questions Loyola students ask
Can I use the same preceptor for FPCM I and FPCM II at Loyola?
The FNP guide sets identical preceptor and setting rules for both courses, so the same preceptor can meet them. Whether your course allows continuing at the same practice is your course faculty's call. If they agree, ask the Clinical Practicum Coordinator how to file the FPCM II request in Exxat.
Can a physician or PA precept Loyola's NURS G827?
Yes. Loyola's 2025 FNP guide accepts physicians (MD or DO), physician assistants and nurse practitioners in both FPCM I and FPCM II, as long as the preceptor meets the license, certification and experience rules. Students from pre-Fall 2024 cohorts should check with faculty, since their older letter limited PA preceptors.
When should I start looking for my FPCM II site?
At least three months before the spring term, which in practice means during the fall while you are in FPCM I. Earlier is better if the site will need a new affiliation agreement, since a site's own contract, or a heavily marked-up Loyola agreement, can sit in review for months.
Is Spring III heavier for BSN-DNP FNP students?
Yes. The posted 4-year plan puts FPCM II (200 hours) and the NURS G942 project practicum (180 hours) in the same Spring III term. That is two preceptors, possibly two sites, and two sets of paperwork, with the project course at about 12 hours a week.
What if my FPCM II site asks Loyola to sign its own contract?
Sites may require their own form instead of the Standard Loyola Affiliation Agreement, and those reviews can take several months. Line up a backup site. Any hours logged before every party has signed are lost, and you could have to take the course again.
