KSBN looks at your program later, not now
Enrolling from Kansas in a Louisiana school's online APRN program involves no filing with the Kansas State Board of Nursing. KSBN's guidance says it reviews such a program only once a graduate seeks an APRN license from Kansas, and it spells out what that review covers.
What the Kansas licensure review looks for
- Three or more credit hours in each advanced core course: pathophysiology, pharmacology and health assessment
- 45 or more credit hours overall, from a nationally accredited program
- Role- and specialty-specific clinical hours: 750 for students admitted after March 1, 2025, and 500 under the prior standard
Loyola's MSN FNP, for comparison, plans 800 practicum hours. KSBN also lets online instructors teach you without holding a Kansas license, and it leaves site visits optional; faculty who choose to come see you are there as visitors or lay persons.
The Kansas rule that narrows your preceptor list
Kansas regulation K.A.R. 60-17-104, as KSBN explains it, asks for a supervising clinician who is a Kansas-licensed APRN in the same role the student is preparing for, who has been oriented and who has signed an agreement. For an FNP student, the short list is Kansas family nurse practitioners.
Loyola's FNP guide accepts NP, MD, DO or PA preceptors in the first two FPCM courses, so a Kansas physician raises a question worth settling early. Ask the Clinical Practicum Coordinator how Loyola applies the Kansas rule before a physician's name goes on your Wishlist. AANP rates Kansas a full practice state, and Loyola's own preceptor requirements apply on top of the state's.

One Kansas license can satisfy both Loyola rules
Multistate licenses have been available from Kansas under the Nurse Licensure Compact since July 1, 2019. A multistate Kansas license is active at your Kansas site and also answers Loyola's rule that enrolled graduate students keep a Louisiana or multistate license. KSBN notes that in a Kansas clinical placement you work on a Kansas-recognized RN license, as an advanced practice nursing student (K.S.A. 65-1124).

Can I do Loyola New Orleans clinicals in Kansas City?
On the Kansas side, yes: Loyola approves Kansas for all programs. The metro straddles the state line, though, and a clinic in Kansas City, Missouri answers to Missouri's rules. Missouri also belongs to the compact, so a multistate Kansas license works there, while the preceptor needs a Missouri license. See the Missouri guide.
Does Loyola need Kansas Board approval before I enroll?
No enrollment-stage approval applies to Loyola here. KSBN's guidance for online APRN programs from other states says the Board evaluates the program when one of its graduates seeks Kansas APRN licensure, weighing coursework, total credits, accreditation and clinical hours at that point.
Can a physician precept me in Kansas?
Loyola's FNP guide allows NP, MD, DO or PA preceptors for FPCM I and II. KSBN's guidance, however, ties clinical supervision of APRN students to a Kansas APRN license. Raise the question with the Clinical Practicum Coordinator before you submit a physician, so the placement fits both sets of rules.
Will Kansas license me as an APRN after I graduate from Loyola?
