Doing your Loyola New Orleans practicum in Florida
Florida is approved for every Loyola University New Orleans nursing program, and Loyola's sources say so without a single caveat. The Florida questions are practical ones. Many NPs there practice under a physician protocol, the state's clinical training dollars are reserved for Florida schools, and in a state this long, close to home is something to define before you start calling practices.

Florida on Loyola's map and tables
| Loyola source | Date | Result for Florida |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced practice (MSN and DNP) licensure table | June 2, 2026 | Meets, no note |
| Pre-licensure BSN table | June 2, 2026 | Meets |
| School of Nursing State Approvals Map | July 15, 2026 | Approved, all programs |
The August 2025 map agrees too. With approval settled, Loyola's standard path takes over: you choose a preceptor and site, the placement office arranges the affiliation agreement, and your Exxat request has to read Placement Approved before a single hour goes in the log.

Protocol practice and the Florida preceptor pool
Florida sits in AANP's restricted category, where select Florida NPs keep a physician protocol agreement in place across an entire career unless an exemption applies. For your search, that means asking a practice early who signs on its behalf, because Loyola's Exxat Wishlist asks for the site's authorized legal signer as well as your preceptor's information.
Loyola's own standards ride on top of Florida's. An NP preceptor needs board certification, an unencumbered Florida license and more than a year of practice, and a physician preceptor needs board certification in the specialty. PA eligibility varies by course, as the preceptor requirements page explains.
Florida's rules and funding, read closely
Section 464.019, Florida's program-approval statute, is addressed to an institution wishing to offer prelicensure nursing education in the state, and the Board of Nursing describes what it approves in those same prelicensure terms. A graduate program headquartered in Louisiana meets no Board approval or notice step in it. Facilities still set their own onboarding, and none can host you until Loyola's affiliation agreement carries both signatures.
Florida's clinical training money flows through the TEACH Funding Program (section 409.91256), run by the state's Agency for Health Care Administration in years the Legislature appropriates for it. Federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics and community mental health centers are among the qualified facilities it pays for hours spent training APRN and nursing students under Florida-licensed preceptors. It pays facilities rather than giving preceptors a tax credit, and the hours qualify only when the student's accredited program is based in Florida, so Loyola hours sit outside it.
Four large metros and the Panhandle
The biggest population center is Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach. Next in size comes the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area, then Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, with Jacksonville fourth. Big systems across those regions include UF Health and BayCare Health System, along with Baptist Health South Florida, AdventHealth and HCA Florida Healthcare. Treat them as a sketch of where clinicians teach; each one sets its own student process.
From the western Panhandle, a site across the Alabama line may be closer than anything in Florida. Alabama is green on Loyola's map as well, but its Board of Nursing wants a filing from Loyola before your first clinical day there, as the Alabama guide explains.
Your Florida license
Multistate licenses have come from Florida since the compact took effect there on January 19, 2018. One Florida multistate license keeps you active for Florida practicum hours and satisfies Loyola's rule that graduate students carry a Louisiana or multistate license while enrolled. Florida has passed no APRN Compact legislation. Timing, encumbrances and Nursys e-Notify are on the RN license page.
Why Florida students choose us
Florida is big, so we begin by pinning down your real driving radius, then work it for preceptors who fit the Loyola course ahead of you. We confirm credentials, track down the site's authorized signer and assemble every Wishlist upload, so the placement office receives a request with nothing missing. If a Florida preceptor falls through, we get back to work on a replacement for you right away.
Questions Loyola students ask
Can Florida residents take Loyola New Orleans' online FNP?
Florida is approved for all School of Nursing programs on Loyola's July 2026 State Approvals Map and meets requirements on the June 2026 licensure table. Once enrolled, you select Florida preceptors for your practicums, keep a Florida or multistate RN license active, and finish Loyola's compliance items before any placement can be approved.
Is a Florida NP bound by a physician protocol eligible to precept me?
Yes, as long as they meet Loyola's standards. The protocol governs how the NP practices in Florida; Loyola looks at board certification, an unencumbered Florida license, more than a year of practice and on-site supervision for every hour you log. The practice still has to agree to host you, since the site signs the affiliation agreement.
Does Florida's TEACH funding cover my Loyola clinical hours?
No. TEACH reimburses qualified Florida facilities, when funded, for clinical hours of students in accredited programs based in Florida. Loyola University New Orleans is a Louisiana program, so hours you complete through a Loyola placement fall outside it. It was never a preceptor tax credit either; the payments go to facilities.
Does Loyola have to register with the Florida Board before I start clinicals?
Florida's approval statute is written for prelicensure programs operating in the state; a graduate program based elsewhere faces no Board step under it. Your practicum still depends on Loyola's affiliation agreement with the facility, the site's own onboarding and Placement Approved in Exxat, which is why Loyola asks you to start about three months ahead.
