Which Loyola programs bring you to campus

Loyola draws a clear line between its two formats. An online program puts every course online with no in-person course required, though clinical practicums can still be part of it; a hybrid program mixes required in-person and online courses. The MSN FNP, BSN-DNP FNP, FNP certificate and MSN-DNP Executive Leader are online and asynchronous, and the MSN FNP page lists no intensives. Campus time belongs to the hybrid tracks.

The bulletin gives the Post-Graduate Nurse-Midwifery certificate the same hybrid format, with campus once per semester. The dual AGACNP/Nurse Anesthesia program also comes to campus once per semester for the clinical skills part of its AGACNP training, and Nurse Anesthesia students take their in-person anesthesia courses on campus.

Where campus time happens

Loyola's main campus sits at 6363 St. Charles Avenue in Uptown New Orleans, across from Audubon Park. School of Nursing staff work from Bobet Hall, Rooms 104-05. The Loyola Ochsner Nursing Simulation Lab occupies the 5th floor of Monroe Hall and is stocked with birthing simulators, wearable prostheses and mannequins at both low and high fidelity. Loyola also holds in-person graduate open houses for nurse anesthesia and the dual AGACNP program there.

Loyola publishes no room-by-room schedule for intensives. Ask your course faculty where and when each session meets. Canvas carries course delivery and faculty messages and should be checked daily, so it is the place to watch for their notices; the student systems page explains what lives where.

Fitting practicum hours around a campus trip

Loyola describes the AGACNP and Nurse-Midwifery intensives as clinical skills education, and nothing it publishes counts campus time toward practicum hours, which you log in Exxat with your preceptor. Plan your hour totals without them unless your course faculty tells you otherwise.

1. Get the dates firstAsk your program director or course faculty for the term's intensive dates as soon as they are set, and block them before you build a shift schedule.
2. Tell your preceptor at the startShare the dates when you agree on a schedule, so your preceptor plans around the absence instead of hearing about it the week before.
3. Front-load hours when you canAGACNP students set their own shifts with the preceptor, in blocks from 4 to 12 hours and on weekends or holidays if needed, and a student below half of the required hours at midterm must write an action plan. Extra shifts before a campus week keep you clear of that mark.
4. Protect the rest rulesNurse-Midwifery students sign an Attestation of Work Hours that keeps outside jobs at least 8 hours away from any clinical shift and requires 4 hours of rest before a clinical day runs past 16 hours. Keep travel days away from long shifts.
5. Use the approval form if dates slipIf a campus week pushes hours past the term, ask your faculty of record about the Early Start/Extension Practicum approval form, which moves a practicum's start or end date.

Preceptor searches planned around your campus weeks

In the bulletin, the AGACNP and PMHNP certificate entries set practicums in the student's home area with preceptors, and the AGACNP guide has you arrange shifts with your preceptor. When you are searching, we build the plan around your campus calendar. We look for preceptors near you whose schedules leave room for your weeks in New Orleans: acute care preceptors for NURS G902 through NURS G907, psychiatric preceptors for NURS G856 through NURS G859. We raise the intensive dates with each preceptor before the Preceptor Agreement is signed.
