Loyola's licensure table from June 2 counts Alaska as meeting requirements and never mentions the board step. The map attaches a board step that the table leaves out, and Loyola has published nothing that reconciles the two. The board's preceptorship registration

Alaska registers the student, not the school. The board's FAQ tells anyone in an APRN program to seek a preceptorship with it, and the registration rests on regulation 12 AAC 44.460, written for students whose APRN coursework comes from a school in another state.

Twelve months is the ceiling, an earlier end to the preceptorship closes the registration too, and the board permits one renewal. Since the signed arrangement is part of the filing, Loyola's affiliation agreement and your preceptor's paperwork need to be nearly done before you apply. Count backward from Loyola's three-month lead time, then add time for the board's review.

Who precepts, and where Alaska students look

Alaska NPs have full practice authority on AANP's national map. The board's bar for anyone precepting an APRN student: an APRN or physician holding an active license or privilege to practice with no encumbrances, working in a focus close to yours, who personally supervises, teaches and evaluates you on site. Anchorage dwarfs the state's other metros, Fairbanks-College and the smaller Juneau area. Anchorage's big hospitals include Providence Alaska Medical Center, HCA-owned Alaska Regional and the tribally operated Alaska Native Medical Center; Palmer has Mat-Su Regional; and Fairbanks has Foundation Health Partners, the parent of Fairbanks Memorial and Tanana Valley Clinic. Think of them as places NP students search; none can host your hours until a Loyola agreement with that site is signed.

Licenses for hours in Alaska

Alaska remains a non-compact state. The board describes two bills to join, HB 131 and SB 124, as still under consideration during the 2025-2026 legislative session, and until one passes, a compact license earned in some other state carries no weight for Alaska practice. Alaska is also absent from the APRN Compact's enacting states.

Loyola wants graduate students to hold an RN license that is active in each state where they log practicum hours, plus, for every enrolled term, a license from Louisiana or a multistate one. Questions Loyola students ask

Is Alaska open to Loyola New Orleans FNP students?

Neither Loyola source closes Alaska, but they describe it differently. The June 2, 2026 licensure table counts it among the states that meet requirements; the approvals map dated July 15, 2026 allows it only with board registration and a board preceptorship application. Check your program with the School of Nursing first, then fold the board filing into each practicum term.

When does an Alaska student preceptorship registration expire?

A year after it is issued, unless the preceptorship wraps up before then, in which case it ends with the preceptorship; one renewal is permitted. If your Loyola practicums stretch over several terms, a single registration may not cover them all, so line the dates up against your plan of study with your program director.

Is Alaska part of the Nurse Licensure Compact?

No. The board describes joining as unfinished business for the legislature, with bills introduced in the 2025-2026 session. Compact licenses from other states therefore stop at the Alaska border, and a practicum there calls for an Alaska RN license in addition to the Louisiana or compact license Loyola expects during enrollment.

Do Loyola faculty need an Alaska license to oversee my practicum?

Only if they cross a time threshold. Alaska's rule 12 AAC 44.090(h) requires an Alaska RN license for out-of-state faculty whose grading of Alaska clinical coursework, together with their other Alaska nursing education or consulting, adds up to more than 20 working days within one license cycle. Loyola handles that side; your part is the student registration and your own licenses.
